About the University of South Florida Police Department

The University of South Florida (USF) Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that serves the staff, faculty, students, and visitors of the university. The main office of the USFPD is located at the corner of Fletcher Avenue and USF Maple Drive.

Under the direction of Christopher L. Daniel, Chief of Police, the University of South Florida Police Department (USFPD) is organized into the Administrative Division which includes the Chief, administrative support staff, and the Assistant Chief of Police.

The USFPD’s Patrol Division includes a Uniform Patrol section, Bicycle Squad, Marine Unit, and the Motor Unit. The Criminal Investigative Division includes plain-clothed investigators and the Health Science Center police detachment.

The Patrol and Investigations divisions are responsible for criminal investigations of all misdemeanors, felonies, traffic law enforcement, and traffic crash investigations on the property of the University.

On February 9, 2000, the University of South Florida Police Department (USFPD) was awarded accredited status by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc.


USFPD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit

Officers with the University of South Florida Police Department monitor and enforce traffic laws on the campus property and surrounding areas.

The Traffic Enforcement Unit of USFPD conducts traffic enforcement waives for speed violations, safety belt enforcement, and other traffic infractions. The USFPD also conducts DUI checkpoints looking for drunk and drugged drivers.

Since 2006, members of the USF Police Department have expanded their efforts in proactive enforcement by using DUI Checkpoints and Saturation Patrols. In addition, as part of a grant-funded initiative, members of the USF Police Department have provided additional patrols in the areas immediately surrounding the campus.
