For civil traffic tickets heard at the West Pasco Judicial Center courthouse in New Port Richey, FL, Pasco County Judge Joseph Poblick has begun scheduling those cases again for the first time since the COVID-19 health crisis began.

In March of 2020, the Florida Supreme Court ordered circuits throughout the state to conduct only mission-critical proceedings (such as bond reduction hearings or injunction for protection hearings).

Such proceedings were delayed in order to keep the public safe and slow down the transmission of the virus. As a result, no civil traffic court hearings were conducted over the next five months.

But a few weeks ago, the Clerk of Court began sending out notices for civil traffic court hearings in Courtroom 1B. The first such hearing was scheduled for August 28, 2020, with Judge Joseph Poblick.

Pasco County has now begun conducting civil traffic infraction hearings remotely, either telephonically or through the videoconferencing tool Zoom.

At that first hearing on August 28, 2020, Judge Poblick went through a calendar of roughly ten cases, handled through teleconferencing or video-conferencing on Zoom.

The attorneys at Sammis Law Firm had one of those cases on August 28, 2020, a careless driving citation issued in January of 2020. After a conference with the trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol and a civilian witness, we asked the trooper to recommend dismissing the case. The trooper had no objection to the case being dismissed. The court then dismissed the case. The dismissal saved our client hundreds of dollars in fines and getting 4 points on her driver’s license for careless driving.

Of course, no two cases are alike. Not all cases are dismissed and not all case results are listed here.
